Hurricane Cocktail

Hurricane Cocktail

The famous rum punch from New Orleans that will leave you with a smile!
Make this drink and then read Begin with a Hurricane!

Ingredients:

3 ounces silver rum (for the price Castillo is just fine)
1 ounce black rum (I use Kraken)
4 ounces passion fruit juice*
2 ounces grenadine
1 ounce freshly squeezed lemon juice

Directions:

Combine all ingredients in a cocktail shaker and pour into a Hurricane glass filled with crushed ice. Top with an orange slice and maraschino cherries.  

Notes:

*Passion fruit juice can often be found in the Mexican aisle of the grocery. If you can’t find it, a mix of pineapple/mango/orange type juices would give you something similar.

Like any rum punch, this drink is powerful and I recommend NOT drinking it through two large straws as it’s served at Pat O’s. And yes, just like ALL of my advice, this comes from experience.  I make the mistakes so you don’t have to!

I dislike Bacardi rum, and that’s a nice way of putting it. I’ve never had turpentine but I imagine that’s what it would taste like.  I also don’t care for Myers Black rum. I only mention this because those are two of the popular, readily available silver and black rums. Those are just my personal tastes and please do buy YOUR favorite rum if you already have a preference.
